Snowbird Coverage in 5 Minutes
You live in two places. Most Medicare Advantage plans only cover one of them.
Advantage Is Built for One County
You winter in Florida. You spend the other months somewhere else. That is two homes — and most Medicare Advantage plans only work in one of them.
Advantage networks are drawn at the county line. Outside that area, most plans cover emergencies only.
A two-week trip to see the grandkids is fine. Four or six months of routine care in another state is not.
Doctor visits, specialists, and follow-up care in your other state can come entirely out of your pocket.
What Travels With You
Original Medicare plus a Medigap plan is the usual fit for snowbirds. You keep your cardiologist up north and your primary doctor in Florida.
Original Medicare + Medigap
- Any doctor in the country who takes Medicare.
- No network. No asking permission first.
- The same coverage in Florida and in your other state.
Medicare Advantage
- You use the plan's local network.
- Out of area, most care is emergency-only.
- A PPO visiting benefit exists on some plans — ask for it in writing.
If Home Is New York, Connecticut, or Massachusetts
Those three states give you year-round guaranteed-issue rights for Medigap. You can buy a supplement at any time, no health questions.
That changes the timing. You are not racing a six-month window the way most people are.
We are licensed in Florida and California — not those states. The rights still belong to you. Bring them to the conversation.
What to Bring to a Call
Two ZIP codes — Florida, and the other place you live.
Which state is home for taxes and your driver's license.
The doctors you will not give up in either place, and the months you spend in each.
That is enough to see whether your current plan actually covers both lives — or only one of them.

If travel is the issue, the path choice is the decision. Read that next.
